Collection: Rococo-inspired trims

When researching the trims popular in the 18th Century, I was so excited to stumble across an original book of trimmings samples from the 1730s and was surprised to see how modern they looked. The colours and patterns ranged from the expected flowers and stripes, to polka dots and abstract patterns. There were some with metallic threads running through, and others with a delicate picot edge.

Strangely, though, when looking at images of actual garments, the embellishments were primarily made from the same fabric as the garment, often trimmed on the edges with a very fine lace. Check out the 'Clothing Trims' Pinterest board for a look at some close ups. Trims are often metallic or in a similar shade to the garment fabric.

Things got even more decadent when I began looking at the shoes! There were many with elaborate ruffles along the front, but others featured metallic wavy braids, almost like ric-rac, and even some with pom poms!
