The beginnings of a project...

It might just be my algorithm, but is there a lot of 18th Century fashion content going around recently? I'm not ashamed to admit that Milena Canonero's costumes in the film Marie Antoinette (2006) triggered my obsession with this era and subsequently sent me down the career path I ended up on.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one this film had an influence on, and I'm certainly not alone in my adoration of the Rococo style in fashion and interiors. As a teenager I salivated over the scene in the movie where they are picking out shoes and accessories. (If you've not seen it, check it out below, and if you have seen it, do as I've been doing and watch it a few more times - it's just SO GOOD).

And if you are indeed like me, you'll probably have a stash of candy-coloured faux-dupion curtains that you've found in charity shops over the years and thought to yourself "I could make a Robe à la française with that".

Well, allow me to be your enabler. Let's dig out those remnants of silk and make something cool.

I'm going to be doing a series of blog posts looking into some trims that would be suitable on a costume of this style, and maybe you'll get inspired! And maybe I'll finally get around to creating the Rococo ensemble of my dreams - why not come along on the journey with me?
